When the fan is running intermittently, it may be one of two problems. The motor may overheat, causing the motor to lose power. Alternatively, loose wires or connections or short circuits in the motor windings may be the culprit. Any electrical related faults can only be solved by professionals. Do not attempt to operate the fan motor when an electrical problem is suspected. This can be dangerous and is best done by a trained HVAC technician or electrician.
The working of a fan is basically contains a single phase induction motor. The fan capacitor torques up the electric motor, allowing it to start and run. An electrical current reaches the motor and then enters coils of wire that are wrapped around a metal base.
